Kring & Chung is pleased to announce that Paul McBride, the managing partner of Kring & Chung's Sacramento office, has passed the Nevada State Bar Examination and will be admitted to practice law in Nevada as of the end of October, 2009. Mr. McBride was previously admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania (1981) and California (1993).

Mr. McBride has extensive experience in construction defect litigation, insurance coverage, and business litigation. In addition to insurance defense work, Mr. McBride serves as general counsel for several Sacramento-area building trade subcontractors. His focus in Nevada will be on representing building trade subcontractors who do business in the Reno metropolitan area.

Kring & Chung, LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Min Chai to the firm. Ms. Chai will be handling business transactions and will be supporting our continuing representation of Korean speaking clients. During the past seven years, Ms. Chai worked as a consulting foreign attorney in a law firm in South Korea and worked the past few years at a firm in Irvine.

Ms. Chai is proficient in handling a variety of transactional work includfing international business transactions, licensing agreements, nondisclosure agreements, distributorship agreements, development and supply agreements, production agreements, purchase and sale agreements, lease agreements, employment agreements, consulting agreements, representative agreements, SEC and blue sky filings, corporate formation, private offerings and memorandums, investment banking agreements, franchise agreements, project financing transactions and a variety of other transactions.

Ms. Chai is currently the Finance Commissioner for the City of Irvine where she reviews and recommends for approval budget and other financial proposals for the City. She has served in this position since 2007. She was also a past-president of the Orange County Korean American Bar Association and is currently serving as the president-elect of the Orange County Korean American Coalition.4.

Laura Hess, an associate at Kring & Chung, LLP, served as a judge for the American Collegiate Moot Court Association (ACMA) National Finals on Saturday, January 17, 2009. The competition was held at Chapman University School of Law. The college students argued the closed problem case of Andrea Sommerville v. Olympus State University, which involved First Amendment and due process issues.

Kring & Chung, LLP congratulates Shane Singh for being named Partner. Mr. Singh has been instrumental in developing new business litigation files out of the Sacramento office. As a Partner, Mr. Singh will continue his marketing efforts in the development and management of our Sacramento office. On November 13, 2008, the Orange County Korean American Bar Association presented Kring & Chung Partner, Kenneth W. Chung, with an Appreciation Award in recognition of his vision, outstanding contributions, and leadership as Past President. Mr. Chung is a founding member of OCKABA.

OCKABA was established in November 2005 to promote networking among minority attorneys, provide more effective legal counsel to the local Orange County community, serve the Korean-American community's legal needs with pro bono services, promote the appointment of Korean judges, and assist law students in making the transitions into full-time law practice.

Laura Hess, an associate with the Irvine office, obtained a verdict for plaintiff during a bench trial in San Bernardino County Superior Court. The plaintiff sought refund of settlement monies paid under a prior lawsuit's settlement agreement and resulting judgment, on the grounds that defendant's promise lacked intent to perform obligations under the settlement terms. Ms. Hess obtained a verdict of $33,000 for plaintiff, plus prejudgment interest. Additionally, all of plaintiff's other obligations owed to defendant under the terms of the prior judgment were extinguished.

Kring & Chung assisted the Orange County Bar Association with its Annual Food Drive to collect non-perishable food for the Orange County Food Bank. The Food Bank distributes food to people who are at risk of hunger. Although some of these people are homeless, the large majority are not. Most are unemployed, senior citizens on fixed income, the working poor, and single mothers, to name a few. They are people who have limited means and have to make tough decisions each month about which bills will get paid and which ones will not. Groceries are one of the things people often go without when they have to make sure there is enough money to pay the rent.

Over 80 newly sworn in attorneys attended the Orange County Bar Association's (OCBA) Bridging the Gap event on Saturday, February 9th. The event, co--sponsored by the OCBA Young Lawyers Division and the Daily Journal, provided 7 hours of MCLE to attendees who made their way through a day of educational and insightful presentations by volunteer members of the bench and bar. Exhibitors included representatives from OCBA sections, committees, affiliates and local law related organizations who were all on hand to assist graduates in bridging the gap between law school and law practice. This program is offered twice a year at no charge to new admittees.

Around 700 guests, including 89 judges came together to celebrate the Orange County Bar Association's (OCBA) Judge's Night on January 18, 2008. OCBA installed the 2008 OCBA officers and presented the Franklin G. West Award to attorney Wylie Aitken.

Kring & Chung Senior Associate, Laura Hess volunteered her time along with the Orange County Bar Association as part of their "Community Outreach" Program. Their efforts on Saturday, November 10th produced 888 boxes of food that were to be delivered to Senior Citizens at risk of hunger.

Kring & Chung joined Irvine City Mayor, Beth Krom today at the CREW Real Estate Careers Day where professional women among the Real Estate industry presented to high school girls from Orange County through the CREW foundation.

CREW Foundation is a nationally branded program designed to teach teenage girls "Commercial Real Estate 101" and the variety of career opportunities in real estate.

Paul McBride

Kring & Chung partner Paul McBride was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps on May 1, 2006. He will serve as the Inspector-Instructor for Company B, 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, in Saginaw, Michigan. This unit is scheduled to deploy to Iraq in September of 2006. Lieutenant Colonel McBride will remain at the Reserve Center in Saginaw, Michigan, in charge of the remain-behind staff and equipment. He will serve as the liaison between the Marines in Iraq and their families and communities back home. He is scheduled to return to civilian life on May 1, 2007. Mr. McBride served on active duty in the Marine Corps from 1983 to 1993. He has been in the Marine Corps Reserve since 1993. This is the second time he has been recalled to active duty for the war in Iraq. He was also recalled for one year in 2003.

In association with the Orange County Korean American Bar Association (OC KABA), Kring & Chung Managing partner and OCKABA's President-Elect, Kenneth Chung was on hand to present to the Korean American community that attended today's 1st Annual Community Law School in Garden Grove, CA.

Various seminars were provided, free of charge, throughout the day, on topics ranging from Immigration, Family law, Estate Planning to Business Entities and How to Purchase a Retail Business. Special guests included: Mayor of Garden Grove, William J. Dalton, Honorable Judge Mark Kim, and Irvine City councilman, Dr. Steven Choi.

Kring & Chung kicks-off the Active for Life program at the American Cancer Society's luncheon today held at the Radisson on Irvine, CA. Kring & Chung team captains joined several other local law firms to initiate the ten week long "Law Firm Challenge" that will encourage participants to get active and get healthy. These initiatives are all part of the Cancer Society's goals of promoting cancer awareness and ways to living a healthier lifestyle.

The application to hold what would have been the 29th Annual Kring & Chung Newport Beach Triathlon was denied tonight by Newport Board members at the city council meeting held in Newport Beach. Thank you to all the supporters who assisted with this event. There will be another effort to change the course again, and continue with the race next year.

Kring & Chung's Sacramento office will attend the Sacramento Barrister's Club and the Sacramento Bar Associations' annual luncheon welcoming the California Supreme Court's justices. The annual gala event will take place on February 15th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Sutter Club in Sacramento.

Kring & Chung attended SCCA's annual golf tournament today at Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, CA. Partners Kyle Kring and John Blakely were on hand to support the SCCA and meet with several construction members who also participated. Executive Vice President, James Burton happily greeted the players at the registration booth. Says Burton, "Kring & Chung has been very important to the SCCA. John Blakely was instrumental in getting the bill (AB 758) passed. He met with legislators and went back and forth to Sacramento to get it done."

Kring & Chung attended Hillview Acres Children's Home 2nd Annual Fundraising dinner today as a silver sponsor. The evening was highlighted by featured speaker, Michael Reagan who touched everyone with his emotional speech. The Hillview staff also recognized CEO, Ronald Storm, who has dedicated over 25 years of service to Hillview. The night concluded with Kring & Chung attorney, Kathleen Jo Patterson, eloquently asking for the help of donations that would go directly to the shelter.

The 2nd Annual Carson Open presented by Kring & Chung LLP, took place today at Monarch Beach Golf Links in Dana Point, CA.
