The OCKAF was established 21 years ago in Orange County to service the Orange County community including the growing Korean American population. The goals of OCKAF are to encourage civic participation, bridge cultural gaps, promote awareness of issues that affect the community and support social, economic and cultural functions throughout the community. Kring & Chung, LLP is a proud sponsor of the 5th Annual Community Law School presented by the Orange County Korean American Bar Association. The Community Law School will be held on April 24, 2010 at Kia Motors in Irvine. Attorneys will present legal seminars in areas including civil litigation, bankruptcy, estate planning and immigration in order to educate the public on important and topical legal issues. Kring & Chung is pleased to announce that Paul McBride, the managing partner of Kring & Chung's Sacramento office, has passed the Nevada State Bar Examination and will be admitted to practice law in Nevada as of the end of October, 2009. Mr. McBride was previously admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania (1981) and California (1993). Mr. McBride has extensive experience in construction defect litigation, insurance coverage, and business litigation. In addition to insurance defense work, Mr. McBride serves as general counsel for several Sacramento-area building trade subcontractors. Kring & Chung, LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Min Chai to the firm. Ms. Chai will be handling business transactions and will be supporting our continuing representation of Korean speaking clients. During the past seven years, Ms. Chai worked as a consulting foreign attorney in a law firm in South Korea and worked the past few years at a firm in Irvine. Ms. Chai is proficient in handling a variety of transactional work includfing international business transactions, licensing agreements, nondisclosure agreements, distributorship agreements, development and supply agreements, production agreements, purchase and sale agreements, lease agreements, employment agreements, consulting agreements, representative agreements, SEC and blue sky filings, corporate formation, private offerings and memorandums, investment banking agreements, franchise agreements, project financing transactions and a variety of other transactions. Ms. Chai is currently the Finance Commissioner for the City of Irvine where she reviews and recommends for approval budget and other financial proposals for the City. She has served in this position since 2007. She was also a past-president of the Orange County Korean American Bar Association and is currently serving as the president-elect of the Orange County Korean American Coalition.4. |

Laura Hess serves as judge for ACMA National Finals in Orange, CA

Laura Hess, an associate at Kring & Chung, LLP, served as a judge for the American Collegiate Moot Court Association (ACMA) National Finals on Saturday, January 17, 2009. The competition was held at Chapman University School of Law. The college students argued the closed problem case of Andrea Sommerville v. Olympus State University, which involved First Amendment and due process issues. |

Kring & Chung Wins Bench Decision

Laura Hess, an associate with the Irvine office, obtained a verdict for plaintiff during a bench trial in San Bernardino County Superior Court. The plaintiff sought refund of settlement monies paid under a prior lawsuit's settlement agreement and resulting judgment, on the grounds that defendant's promise lacked intent to perform obligations under the settlement terms. Ms. Hess obtained a verdict of $33,000 for plaintiff, plus prejudgment interest. Additionally, all of plaintiff's other obligations owed to defendant under the terms of the prior judgment were extinguished. |

Orange County Bar Association Food Drive

Kring & Chung assisted the Orange County Bar Association with its Annual Food Drive to collect non-perishable food for the Orange County Food Bank. The Food Bank distributes food to people who are at risk of hunger. Although some of these people are homeless, the large majority are not. Most are unemployed, senior citizens on fixed income, the working poor, and single mothers, to name a few. They are people who have limited means and have to make tough decisions each month about which bills will get paid and which ones will not. Groceries are one of the things people often go without when they have to make sure there is enough money to pay the rent. |

Over 80 newly sworn in attorneys attended the Orange County Bar Association's (OCBA) Bridging the Gap event on Saturday, February 9th. The event, co--sponsored by the OCBA Young Lawyers Division and the Daily Journal, provided 7 hours of MCLE to attendees who made their way through a day of educational and insightful presentations by volunteer members of the bench and bar. Exhibitors included representatives from OCBA sections, committees, affiliates and local law related organizations who were all on hand to assist graduates in bridging the gap between law school and law practice. This program is offered twice a year at no charge to new admittees. |

Kring & Chung partner Paul McBride was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps on May 1, 2006. He will serve as the Inspector-Instructor for Company B, 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment, in Saginaw, Michigan. This unit is scheduled to deploy to Iraq in September of 2006. Lieutenant Colonel McBride will remain at the Reserve Center in Saginaw, Michigan, in charge of the remain-behind staff and equipment. He will serve as the liaison between the Marines in Iraq and their families and communities back home. He is scheduled to return to civilian life on May 1, 2007. Mr. McBride served on active duty in the Marine Corps from 1983 to 1993. He has been in the Marine Corps Reserve since 1993. This is the second time he has been recalled to active duty for the war in Iraq. He was also recalled for one year in 2003. |

SAY San Diego's Adopt a Family program, offering support to San Diego families in need, has grown dramatically over the last few years. The Adopt a Family Program benefits sponsored families, bringing smiles, warmth and comfort to children and families that would otherwise not have a holiday celebration. Families are given new clothing, toys, family games, blankets and grocery store gift cards and in some cases items to help them in their every day to day living. This year's program brought gifts to over 1,000 children and their parents or guardians.
