California Law Revision Commission
The Commission is engaged in a comprehensive revision of the mechanics lien law. The Commission has issued a report that provides an overview of the project. As an initial matter, the Commission has issued a recommendation to address the double liability problem in home improvement contracts. This recommendation has not yet been enacted into law.
The Commission has now completed a general revision of the mechanics lien law with the objective of modernizing, simplifying, and clarifying the law, and making it more user friendly, efficient, and effective for all stakeholders.
